Role Overview and Responsibilities

The Product Manager will support the Optoelectronics business unit with a focus on maximizing product line profitability through support of strategic plan development, regular business analysis and reporting, NBO (New Business Opportunity) support, product pricing strategy, forecast support, and NPI (New Product Introduction) launch coordination.


Key Support to Product Line Director (PLD):

  • Reports directly to Opto Product Line Director.
  • Support development and execution of business unit strategies such as  long-term strategic growth plans and tactical initiatives to deliver budgeted goals
  • Supports and manages all aspects of the product life cycle and responsible for overall P&L performance
  • Focused responsibility for OEM (direct) and Distribution (indirect) channel product management.
  • Develop market insights through strategic assessments of the market, customer, competitors, and capabilities
  • Supports the formulation of short and long-term forecasts including SIOP initiatives
  • Supports operations including quality, delivery, manufacturing to optimize cost, efficiency and delivery
  • Support PLD on weekly and monthly business reporting and presentations.

Strategic Pricing & Administration:

  • Executes pricing strategies focusing on special pricing requests, contract renewals, custom pricing, contract renewals, project registrations, and distributor price book updates
  • Support PLD to develop pricing strategy for standard & custom products.
  • Coordinate, analyze and prepare material to conduct periodic pricing reviews annually
  • Analyze part number and/or product line GPM as needed supporting PLD.
  • Develop and execute value-based pricing strategies and analyze market and competitive pricing positions

OEM, Distributor POS orders & sales, and Inventory Analysis:

  • Analyze distributor POS data to identify customer, product and pricing trends. Maintain “Top Mover” part number list
  • Develop monthly and YTD reporting for Top 50 OEM Customers and Top 50 POS customers

New Product Introduction (NPI), and Marketing:

  • Create marketing requirements documents (MRDs) and financial business cases to support and justify development of new product introductions.
  • Key BU role to coordinate product launch activities for NPI collaborating with Marketing team.
  • Work with global applications team to develop sales training material NPI and/or existing products.
  • Collaborate with global FAE team & product engineering to develop promotional technical material.
  • Support development of Product/Technology roadmap.

Additionally the core requirements for the ideal candidate are as follows:

  • 5 years product management experience.
  • BSEE or equivalent technical degree.
  • Strong business acumen: Understands how products are sold, distributor dynamics, competitive situations. Solid financial analysis skills (including gross margin analysis, pricing impacts, etc
  • Analytical thinking: Ability to transform raw data into usable information. Understands the reasons behind requests and produces information as appropriate (even if not specifically requested initially).
  • Exceptional MS Excel/Powerpoint and presentation skills
  • Ability to travel, including international (anticipated travel is less than 10%)
  • Personal Attributes: high energy, creative, and resourceful self-starter.
  • MBA Preferred
  • Hi-Rel product experience is a plus.
  • Work experience in Manufacturing and/or Development.
  • International business work experience preferred.
  • Participation in, or leadership of, multicultural and/or multi-geographic projects
  • Optoelectronics and/or semiconductor experience
