Roxspur Measurement & Control Ltd (RM&C), based in Sheffield, became part of TT Electronics in July 2014. Our products include sensors, thermocouples, thermometers, transducers, transmitters, flowmeters and controllers. Our modern cell based manufacturing facilities are fully flexible for small and large batch runs, enabling us to provide short lead times even for customized products The in-house manufacturing and testing is backed up by our own UKAS accredited laboratory for pressure, temperature, flow and electrical parameters. A team of field-based engineers also provide a full calibration, maintenance and repair service throughout Europe.

Role Overview and Responsibilities

Title: Apprentice Laboratory Technician

Reports to: Laboratory Manager & Laboratory Supervisor

Based at: Roxspur Measurement and Control, 2 Downgate Drive Sheffield

Job Purpose: To carry out calibration and related administration and customer service activities within the Laboratory side of RM&C’s Calibration Services Department.

Key Responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • Adhere to stated policies and procedures relating to health and safety and quality management.
  • Communicate with customers, Service & Lab engineers via telephone/email/direct contact.
  • Liaise with Sales to organise quotations for contracts, new equipment, replacement equipment, etc.
  • Type and word-process various documents and electronic information.
  • Have a good understanding of ISO17025:2005 (UKAS) and the aerospace specification AMS 2750E.
  • Manage, organise and update certificate data using database applications (IndySoft, SalesForce and Sage1000)
  • Calibrate internal reference equipment and customers’ instruments to UKAS and/or Traceable standards.
  • Ensure that all reference standards are fit for purpose and are within calibration at the time of use.
  • Produce labels and Coil Calibration Certificates of Conformity for Production Department.
  • Ensure that turnaround times are met within the Calibration Services Department.
  • Highlight any problems in the Laboratory to Laboratory Manager / Supervisor.
  • Maintain a high level of housekeeping in the Laboratory at all times.
  • Provide technical assistance to Sales & Administration departments
  • Participate in meetings, conferences and project team activities.

Qualifications, Skills and Attributes

  • Good IT skills.
  • Good organisational/housekeeping skills.
  • Maths & English GCSE or equivalent preferred.
  • Candidates must be able to prove they have the right to work in the UK by start date.
  • Specialist training will be given.
