Roxspur Measurement & Control Ltd (RM&C), based in Sheffield, became part of TT Electronics in July 2014. Our products include sensors, thermocouples, thermometers, transducers, transmitters, flowmeters and controllers. Our modern cell based manufacturing facilities are fully flexible for small and large batch runs, enabling us to provide short lead times even for customized products  The in-house manufacturing and testing is backed up by our own UKAS accredited laboratory for pressure, temperature, flow and electrical parameters. A team of field-based engineers also provide a full calibration, maintenance and repair service throughout Europe.

Role Overview/Responsibilities

ROLE TITLE: Materials Scientist

Primary Job Purpose:

 

Material Scientist to support existing product portfolio, drive improvements, and develop innovative new products.
A key focus is thick film printed piezoresistive pressure sensing technology, and part of the role is to be the company expert/design authority for this product group.
There is, however, a wider role in providing material science support across the company, and developing new sensing solutions.

 


Requirements of the Role (Key Result Areas, Areas of Focus, Responsibility and Accountability):

 

  • Responsible for all aspects of thick film technology – from substrate material/ink specification and qualification, to defining process parameters for production 
  • Supporting Sales, Operations and customers with current product designs
  • Provide a high level of support to the Sales team in engineering aspects of variants and customer special products
  • Creation of ideas for new technologies, products and processes and following through the development lifecycle
  • Working in a multi-disciplinary team to develop the corresponding electronics and metalwork 
  • Applying materials expertise across the company, for example:
  • Selecting the best combination of materials for specific purposes
  • Testing materials to assess how resistant they are to heat, corrosion or chemical attack
  • Assessing materials for specific qualities (such as electrical conductivity, durability, renewability)
  • Considering the implications for waste and other environmental pollution issues of any product or process
  • Working to solve problems arising during the manufacturing process or with the finished product
  • Supervising quality control throughout the construction and production process
  • Helping to ensure that products comply with national and international legal and quality standards
  • Advising on inspection, maintenance and repair procedures
  • Liaising with colleagues in manufacturing, technical and scientific support, purchasing and marketing
  • Establishing good working relationships with engineers throughout the Division to
  • Transfer know-how to other TT organisations
  • Support all subsidiaries of TT electronics group in the similar or related technology 
  • Liaison with both customers and suppliers.
  • Ensures all Company procedures are adhered to- Especially EHS and Quality requirements

 

Qualifications

Competencies required:

 

  • Good understanding of thick film technology – ideally piezoresistive printing onto ceramics
  • Understand the principle of pressure/temperature/flow measurement and devices
  • Good engineering skillset 
  • Material science background
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and an ability to influence at all levels in the organisation

 


Requirements of the Person (Position Qualifications, Education and/or Skills and Experience) – CORE:

 

  • University degree in a relevant engineering/physical science discipline
  • Good experience in thick film technology
  • Experience of experiment design and data analysis – ideally in a production environment
  • Experience of new product development
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and an ability to influence at all levels in the organisation
  • Strong organisational, multi–tasking and time-management skills
  • 3 year work experience of UK industry


Requirements of the Person (Position Qualifications, Education and/or Skills and Experience) – DESIREABLE:

 

  • Experience in Industrial segment
  • Experience of temperature, flow, pressure technologies
  • AutoCAD/Solidwork
