    Roxspur Measurement & Control Ltd (RM&C), based in Sheffield, became part of TT Electronics in July 2014. Our products include sensors, thermocouples, thermometers, transducers, transmitters, flowmeters and controllers. Our modern cell based manufacturing facilities are fully flexible for small and large batch runs, enabling us to provide short lead times even for customized products The in-house manufacturing and testing is backed up by our own UKAS accredited laboratory for pressure, temperature, flow and electrical parameters. A team of field-based engineers also provide a full calibration, maintenance and repair service throughout Europe.

    Role Overview and Responsibilities

    • Introduction

    We are recruiting for a Machine Shop Supervisor to lead our machining department. You will support and be responsible for this team of 11 technicians and their daily operations.


    The successful candidate will have extensive experience in machining, be a team player, and proven ability with leading a department.


    Key Responsibilities

    1. Health & Safety, Environment

    • Promote safe working practices (Lead by Example)
    • Ensure that procedures and legislation is adhered to
    • Support H&S improvements in the department 

    2. Production

    • Work with the Operations Manager and team to ensure:
      - a safe working environment
      - production targets are achieved in line with production plans
      - production reliability
      - efficiencies
      - product quality

    3. People

    • Daily / weekly resource allocation & planning with Production Planner
    • Overtime and holiday planning are managed and communicated
    • Performance management of team and team members
    • Manage attendance and absence of team members (i.e. conduct Return to Work interviews)
    • Support recruitment for the department

    4. Training

    • Identify and review training needs, update training plan as fit.
    • Support training activities in the department
    • Review training activities and ensure that all team members are trained to required standards

    5. Process Improvement

    • Continually review processes to improve productivity
    • Support continuous process improvement initiatives (incl. Gemba walks, 5S in the department

    6. Communication & Visual Management

    • Participate in Tier 2 Daily communication with peers on H&S; performance; backlog; people matters
    • Facilitate Tier 3 weekly team briefings with team members, including H&S, visual management, business performance, capacity planning, training and 5S.
    • Contact with suppliers and customers where necessary
    • Monthly MMR reporting. Provide information on department's performance against targets

    Qualifications, Skills and Attributes

    Core Requirements

    The successful candidate must demonstrate:

    • In-depth working knowledge and a complete understanding of machine shop principles, concepts, regulations and practices
    • Leadership skills including organizing, planning, scheduling and coordinating workloads to meet established deadlines and milestones
    • Understanding of- and experience with Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement principles
    • Ability to promote shop safety, quality, delivery, employee involvement and cost objectives
    • Ability to manage and promote organisation changes
    • Natural ability to engage (small) groups of people

    Desirable Skills and Experience

    • Working knowledge and understanding of Microsoft applications; Word, Excel, PowerPoint
    • Proven experience as leader in the workplace, as Supervisor, Team Leader or other

    Working Hours, Compensation and Benefits

    • 39 hours a week (7.30-16.30 Mon-Thu; 7:30-12.30 Fridays)
