    This role is based at Aero Stanrew, our Barnstaple location; part of the Power Electronics division where we employ approximately 250 employees and specialise in the manufacture of wound components, printed-circuit board assemblies, cabinet wiring and electronic test equipment for the civil aircraft, space, and defence industries.

    Role Overview and Responsibilities

    Reporting to the local Engineering Manager, we are recruiting for a Magnetic Design Engineer. Experienced magnetic knowledge is available locally and the ideal candidate will have the potential to increase their own capability and grow within the organization.

     

    Key Responsibilities

    Review of customer or internal specifications to determine the optimal magnetic solutions for products. This will include full product compliance with the DO-160 environmental requirements.
    Develop standard magnetics
    Write the magnetic sections of customer proposals and take ownership of all compliance matrix responses of magnetic aspects of the final product
    Develop magnetic solutions for products by studying customer requirements, liaising closely with power converter team members to agree magnetic performance
    Model magnetic solutions concepts; create representative SABER models; create 2D drawings for use in quoting and production; work with the configuration management team, providing support and compliance guidance
    Support all magnetic aspects of product design reviews
    Confirm product integrity and performance by developing test plans and procedures for design assurance testing and qualification testing
    Develop high level manufacturing test plans that can be used by the Test Engineers (TEs) at the manufacturing sites. Follow through with the TEs to ensure the electrical/magnetic designs perform as expected and are monitored using a 6 sigma methodology.
    Provide magnetic design support for product failures, involving collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends in our products and then reporting findings to key stakeholders
    Protect product and company reputation by complying with all relevant regulations and standards.
    Use our ‘lessons learnt’ database to record all product failures, test failure and customer delays; support the development of new processes and procedures to eliminate future repeat issues
    Continued personal, professional and technical development including: attending seminars and workshops; review of trade papers and publications; review and compare industry standards, e.g.   DO-160 etc.; joining of trade associations; development of good working relationships with customers, suppliers and academics.
    Operate effectively and responsively as a team player, providing engineering information to key stakeholders, freely sharing expertise
    Provide supportive advice, coaching and mentoring technicians and junior engineers

    BEng Electrical and/or Electronic Engineering (2.1 or higher)
    or BSc Physics (2.1 or higher)
    Previous appropriate industry experience
    Given the nature of the activities candidates must be eligible to work on military products under the relevant jurisdiction license (including ITAR)
