TT Electronics’ Bedlington facility north of Newcastle upon Tyne is the home of two TT Electronics divisions; Sensors & Specialist Components and Power Electronics. Sensors & Specialist Components are leaders in high reliability, high performance and engineered electronic components. Power Electronics provide custom power solutions for safety-critical applications in harsh environments. The team in Bedlington specialises in microcircuit production for the aerospace and defence industries.

Role Overview and Responsibilities


We have a vacancy for a Design Engineer within the Product Development team. In this product development role, the successful candidate will be responsible for designing power module products while adhering to the company NPI process. You will also sustain and improve existing products lines, including yield improvements and cost reduction, whilst providing technical support within the Engineering Department.


Key Responsibilities

•           Plan and execute the introduction of new products in accordance with the NPI procedure, through the design & development phase and operational areas, into the production phase.

•           Power module design

•           Production of procurement and manufacturing drawings and specifications

•           Work with the sales and business development team in the support of new business opportunities.

•           Support existing product lines and processes throughout the entire life cycle.

•           Support the execution of the business strategic plan and keep abreast of new technologies and business opportunities.

•           Ensure safe working practices are adopted and health and safety legislation are adhered to when implementing new products, materials processes, or equipment.

•           On occasion, this role may require visits to customers or suppliers and may also involve foreign travel.

Qualifications, Skills and Attributes

Core Requirements

Experience in both mechanical & electronics CAD design and performing thermal, mechanical, and electrical simulations
Knowledge of silicon MOSFET, IGBT and SiC/GaN semiconductor technologies
Knowledge or experience working with common semiconductor packaging materials
Experience in Design of Experiments, 8D and data analysis
Process development and documentation
Project planning/management
Good interpersonal skills to be able to communicate and influence across all levels of the business


Desireable Skills and Experience

Applicants should possess a Degree or HND/HNC with equivalent experience, in an engineering discipline and should have demonstrable experience in a manufacturing environment, ideally in the electronics industry. Knowledge of lean manufacturing tools and statistical process techniques would be highly advantageous however applications from individuals with relevant experience wishing to develop their career towards this post would also be considered.
