Our Barnstaple facility is located in North Devon. Founded in 1948, the site now employs approximately 160 employees and features the Aero Stanrew brand of electromagnetic components, printed-circuit board assemblies, cabinet wiring and electronic test equipment for safety critical applications in aerospace and defence, industrial and transportation industries.

Role Overview and Responsibilities

Introduction

 

Reporting to the materials manager this role is required to take a leading team member role within the site logistics and materials management team activities, deputising for the materials manager and supporting the wider team to ensure day to day process requirements are satisfied to the required levels of compliance and business requirements.

 

The role is one of a leading hand and therefore requires a balanced approach to ensure the team dynamic is supported, stepping into a leading role to deputise for the materials manager and working as part of the logistics team. Manage a team responsible for Inbound and Outbound material transactions and deputise from the Materials Manager who will hold responsibility for materials whilst on site.

 

Requirements:

 

  • Always demonstrate safe behaviour and delivers a zero-safety incident culture within logistics processes and related to materials handling and movement.
  • Support the maintenance of policies, procedures and material control systems, ensuring full compliance to all required standards e.g. AS9100, ISO9001, and remain Compliant within the Law of UK and US Export Control Acts/Legislation and Fiscal regulations
  • Working as part of the logistics team coordinates the efficient movement of materials with purchasing, production, and engineering, supporting the planning and execution of all activities related to the receiving, storing, and shipping of materials and finished goods.
  • Ensures materials are received from proper vendors, delivered to inventory, and that finished goods are packaged and kitted according to specification and shipped in a timely manner.
  • Reviews receipt of all materials to ensure purchase orders are processed effectively and accurately and the quality of materials received is correct.
  • Ensures the security and accuracy of materials and goods with inventory control.
  • May assist with the establishment and maintenance of the production control system.
  • Ensures materials are available to meet production schedules and/or products are shipped as per marketing schedules, achieving “on time in full” of agreed or contracted Customer KPIs and Milestones.
  • Improves operational methods and procedures to improve Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost
  • Maintains documentation to reflect the effectiveness and efficiency of department activities and in line with AS9100 and other compliance requirements including the development and implementation of export control procedures at the Business Unit to improve, compliance, standardization across multiple facilities and overall effectiveness.
  • Supports the implementation of effective process and product control strategies and process, e.g. Layered stock cycle counting Process Audits and Finished Goods audits where necessary.
  • Support ISO and External audits as necessary to ensure compliance with policies and expectations.
  • Supports the development of others with effective corrective and preventive actions using 8D and Mistake Proofing concepts in response to customer concerns, COQ data or regular product/process audit results.
  • Deputy for Materials Manager across the Logistics team and as site Export Control Officer. This includes but is not limited to: Compliance requirements, Goods In, Stores, kitting, and despatch.

Qualifications and Experience:

 

Essential:

  • Experienced in Aerospace industry or similar industry.
  • Able to support lean improvements in a structured way to continually improve team performance.
  • Ability to work effectively within a fast paced and dynamic environment.
  • Ability to identify and implement new technologies to add value to the existing processes.
  • Proven track record in effective logistics parts controls, Demonstratable experience in a similar role.
  • Customs Procedures Import/Export Chief systems and EUR1/Commercial Invoices
  • Harmonised Tariff Code system and reporting
  • SPIRE UK Export Control Joint Unit Licencing System
  • Awareness of US Extraterritorial Export Control Laws and how to remain Compliant
  • Security Control aspects relating to Security Aspects Letters and UK Secrets and Official Sensitive control procedures
  • Ability to read a variety of Technical Drawing types or specification/data sheets and make an Understanding of requirements and assess part compliance
  • ERP Enterprise Resource Planning and MRP Material Requirements Planning tools (ideally Epicor 9, Vantage 8 or similar)
  • Advanced or Expert user in Microsoft Excel or Power

Desirable:

  • IOSH managing safely trained.
  • Previous experience in lean principles
  • Knowledge of our customers and their industry, Aerospace, Marine, Defence
  • Experience of dealing with customers, suppliers & government agencies both internal/external
  • AS9100 rev D awareness
