Our Abercynon facility is located in the beautiful South Wales Valleys. As part of the Power Electronics division featuring the AB Connectors brand, we are a recognised market leader in the design and manufacture of connectors and electrical harness systems used in harsh environments for aerospace and defence, transportation and industrial industries. Role Overview and Responsibilities

Introduction

Excellent opportunity for a Production Engineer to join a busy Engineering team based at our site in Abercynon reporting to the Operations Manager.

The production Engineer role defines and works out how the product will be manufactured and/ or assembled on the production line including making the decision on what packaging is used. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the safe and effective use of people and equipment to achieve the daily, weekly and monthly production plan.
  • Work in conjunction with the Planning department to the TOC process to meet the requiements of the capacity plan in the optimal way. 
  • Ensure that the manufacturing teams are appropriately training/ qualified for the functions that they are required to perform in line with the work instructions. 
  • Lead the team in the achievement of the operational KPI's and budgeted requirements.
  • Lead and champion continuous improvement and lean activities in line with the BE LEAN principles and support the VAVE activities through the implementation of cycle time reduction and tool life improvements etc.
  • Participate in the project management process for NPI and provide resources as required. 
  • Introduce new processes and equipment required to manufacture products to a required level of output.

Health, Safety and Environment 

  • Ensure all processes have been risk assessed and the appropriate work instructions for the safe operation are specified.
  • Ensure that operators are trained to the specified work instruction.
  • Ensure the manufacturing operation is complaint with the relevant legislation and TT roadmaps.
  • Participate in the HSE committee meeetings and departmental inspections. 

Qualifications, Skills and Attributes

Core Requirements

  • In depth knowledge of cable harness assembly and the associated control requirements (IPC620)
  • HNC/ HND qualified or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline.
  • Ability to identify and implement effective training requirements.
  • Display a high level of professional integrity and honesty at all times.
  • Ability to communicate competently and effectively at all levels.
  • A flexible approach to team working with ability to lead and work as part of the wider operational team.
  • Structured and systematic approach.
  • Clear understanding of how manufacturing process should be configured to ensure stable and effective outputs. 
  • Demonstrated ability to implement lean improvements in a structured way to continually improve the manufacturing performance. 
  • Ability to obtain Baseline Personal Security Standard clearance. 

 

Desireable Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience of military and traction projects desired.
  • Previous experience in a connector or harness manufacturing 
  • Knowledge of our customers and their industry.
