Role Overview and Responsibilities

Job Summary

 

The Production Lead supervises team members in a manufacturing assembly environment.  This role plans and assigns work, implements policies and procedures, and recommends and implements improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures and working conditions.

 

Essential Functions

  • Creates a high-performance team environment focused on Torotel’s success and emphasizes proactive communication, approachability, trust, and respect for each individual. Lives and promotes the Torotel core values.
  • Delivers on daily, monthly, and quarterly performance metrics including safety, quality, delivery, efficiency, continuous improvement and employee engagement. Works with the Value Stream Leader to develop relevant metrics for the team.  Leads effective Tier 1 meetings focused on improving the team’s performance every day.
  • Proactively manages the daily schedule. Insures that there is a minimum amount of time spent changing over from one job to the next.
  • Ensures the manufacturing cell is performing to their weekly production plan. When issues are identified, works with the Value Stream Leader to actively root cause problem-solve issues.
  • Uses root cause problem-solving tools such as 5-Whys to determine the root cause of problems in order to generate corrective actions and prevent reoccurrence of daily misses.
  • With either the Value Stream Leaders or Value Stream Manager co-facilitates at least two kaizen events / year. This is in addition to daily kaizen. 
  • Assists the Value Stream Leader in developing the team through on-going coaching and cross-training, conducting performance evaluations and providing performance feedback, participating in interview process, and managing staffing.
  • Coordinates vacation schedules. Performs accurate member record keeping in relation to attendance, performance, safety, and quality. 
  • Coaches members on issues. Provides conflict resolution and productive team management.
  • Promotes safety goals and awareness with team members, performs accident investigations, and conducts required safety training.
  • Develops TWI job breakdowns and trains team members using the TWI method. Insures that the “one best way” is followed.
  • Ability to fill in on the line, when necessary, to ensure that production goals are met.
  • Works within ERP (Epicor) to plan and execute work.
  • Performs other duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications, Skills and Attributes

Experience & Education

  • J-STD-001 Certifications are required.
  • IPC-A-610 / 620 Certifications are required.
  • Knowledge of working requirements of AS9100 quality standard is preferred.
  • Two to three years related to experience and /or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook) is required.
  • Working knowledge of quality practices is required.
  • Meets vision requirements specified by quality management system.
  • This position requires use of information which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
