Role Overview and Responsibilities

Introduction

The Component Engineer is responsible for various component selection, qualification, reliability analysis/prediction, and life cycle management of components used in power supply products, while working closely with product line Engineers, Quality Assurance and Purchasing departments.

Also, this position requires use of information which is subject to the INternational Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR.  ITAR defines as a U.S. Citizen, U.S Permanent Resident (i.e "Green ard Holder"), Policitcal Asylee, or Refugee.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Finding an alternate component/new component for existing/new product design based on cost and availability, while working closely with product line Engineers, QA and Purchasing departments.
  • Write ECR as needed to process PCNs received from suppliers and to add/block components to the existing component database.
  • Perform component level tests to qualify new components, preparing reports and adding to the part database per internal component qualification procedures.
  • Interface with various material suppliers to obtain documentation related to compliance standards and working closely with environmental compliance analyst to update this information into PLM/ERP database.
  • Actively identifying obsolete components/suppliers and developing solutions to resolve all such issues.
  • Maintains the BOM, Manufacturing processes, and finished goods part numbering system.
  • Provide input to new designs to improve product reliability.
  • Perform reliability modelling and predictions (including MTBF calculations).
  • Ensure all existing and new internal part number descriptions are correct and add all the  missing attributes for various component parts in the database.
  • Perform fault analysis.
  • Completes work in timely manner; demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; looks for ways to improve and promote quality;  monitors own work to ensure quality.

 

Qualifications, Skills and Attributes

Core Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in any technical or science field.
  • At least one year of related experience (or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience).
  • Prior experience working as a Component Engineer or Electrical Design Engineer is required.
  • Knowledge of OrCAD EDM (Electronics Data Management) process or similar with smart part numbering system.
  • Must possess project management skills with strong leadership abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents.
  • Ability to write scientific documents where required with test results obtained from component qualification or unit level test.
  • Ability to use Internet/Intra-net, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), and other software programs and packages to their potential to provide a work product fitting to the level of the position.
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlations techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
