TT Electronics’ Bedlington facility north of Newcastle upon Tyne is the home of two TT Electronics divisions; Sensors & Specialist Components and Power Electronics. Sensors & Specialist Components are leaders in high reliability, high performance and engineered electronic components. Power Electronics provide custom power solutions for safety-critical applications in harsh environments. The team in Bedlington specialises in microcircuit production for the aerospace and defence industries.

Role Overview and Responsibilities

Introduction

We have a vacancy for an experienced Process Engineer to join the Engineering team working within our Microelectronics business. The ideal candidate will have experience manufacturing hybrid microelectronic assemblies, although we would consider candidates with relevant experience who aspire to work in this exciting sector.  In this role you will develop new processes for new products, improve existing process to maximise production efficiency and support the manufacture of volume product lines.  This is a broad and varied role, working as part of the wider engineering team you will mentor junior engineers and be involved in a wide range of projects focussed on production but spanning the full life cycle. 

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for die bond and wire bond processess. You will also sustain and improve existing products lines, including yield improvements and cost reduction, whilst providing technical support within the Engineering Department.

 

Key Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, key duties and responsibilities include:

  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve yield or manufacturing efficiency and to instigate and participating in continuous improvement activities
  • Instigating and participating in longer term team projects
  • Planing and executing the procurement, installation and qualification of manufacturing equipment
  • Update/produce technical documentation such operating instructions, inspection standards and PFMEAs
  • Provide training and support to production operators and junior engineers
  • Day to day support of production, trouble shooting issues with manufacturing equipment in a timely manner
  • Gain and maintain detailed knowledge of the production process and equipment
  • Support existing product lines and processes throughout the entire life cycle.
  • Ensure safe working practices are adopted and health and safety legislation are adhered to when implementing new products, materials processes, or equipment.
  • On occasion, this role may require visits to customers or suppliers and may also involve foreign travel.

Qualifications, Skills and Attributes

Core Requirements

  • Degree/HNC in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience
  • Experience of die bonding and wire bonding in a microelectronic and/or hybrid manufacturing environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build strong relationships and communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Demonstrated organisational, planning and program skills with careful attention to detail.
  • Be a good Team Player.
  • Have a strong technical bias, with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Work well under pressure to meet strict deadlines.
  • A good level of competence with MS Office applications for documentation and presenting reports.
  • Right to Work in the UK (Visa Sponsorship not available)

 

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Familiarity with electronics & mechanical CAD design
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing tools and statistical process techniques
  • Familiarity with Mil standard and design for high reliability environments
