Role Overview and Responsibilities

Introduction

Reporting to the Site Director, the Head of Engineering is responsible for leading the Engineering team for the Connector Business Unit. The incumbent is responsible for developing new products, technology roadmaps, continuously improving the product development process and, in close coordination with the Sales and Business Teams, prioritising the workload and ensuring timely completion of new product development and customer projects.

 

Requirements of the Role

 

  • Manage and ensure timely completion of the development projects from concept to production implementation.
  • Manage the development of engineers and support and coordinate the tasks of assigned engineering resource.
  • Build and lead high performance teams by effectively recruiting, motivating and developing individuals in a strong team environment. Build organisational and talent development capability including succession plans.
  • Understand and ensure strict adherence to applicable Quality standards (e.g. IRIS, VG, AS9100, ISO 9001, APQP, PPAP etc) as well as the internal new product introduction (NPI) process through the NPI gated process. Create and maintain relevant documentation.
  • Develop, use, and optimize methods and instruments for the analysis and realisation of necessary improvements and minimize costs and risks in the development process.
  • Develop, use and optimize systems, methods and instruments for project management to ensure that project management tasks are completed by the team members in a consistent, timely and effective manner.
  • Develop and ensure compliance with engineering development, configuration management and change control procedures.
  • Assist in the mass production process by leading value engineering initiatives, help with the optimization of existing production methods, as well as the development specifying and debugging of new machines and equipment.
  • Keep the management team and other functions appraised of the progress and project status. Timely communicate any schedule changes and mitigation actions in the project review meetings.
  • Utilize the TSR process to partner with other functions in the business as required to support the development of new opportunities; the resolution of quality issues; the delivery of valve programmes i.e. support production design related issues.
  • Lead the portfolio management process for all technology projects including prioritizing multiple, simultaneously product development programmes.
  • Continuously drive growth and innovation within technology, research, development and engineering functions by facilitating an environment of teamwork and instilling the desire to be the best.
  • Drive financial performance by meeting expense and capital budgets as well as developing the budgets to fund new growth programmes supporting business goals.
  • Continuously communicate with customers for successful realization of development projects.
  • Support the application and sales team with complex customer enquiries and issues including quality related activities.
  • Establish technical leadership by building synergies and strong relationships throughout the organisation, across the business and through external relationships with channel partners, industry associations and customers.
  • Represent the engineering function as a member of the business management team.
  • Represent the company with customers and industry organisations.
  • Properly aligning technical resources putting the right people in the right roles.
  • Raising performance expectations using a clear, metric orientated approach and holding engineering accountable for success and on time completion for projects.
  • Development of the technology roadmap.
  • Working with other functions in the business, focusing technology development on projects with the greatest prospects of commercial success.

Qualifications, Skills and Attributes

Core Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and preferably an advanced degree in one or more of the following areas: Electronics/ Engineering/ Materials Science/ Engineering Science/ Physics.
  • Practical experience in managing connector development within one or more of the following business areas, defence, aerospace, mass transportation, medical, industrial alternative energy or automotive. 
  • Experience in developing an integrated product strategy.
  • Experience and proven success in the management of technical product development within a connector environment (technology and process development)
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills 
  • Motivated by results i.e strives to exceed expectations
  • Demonstrate strong leadership, analytical, influencing and decision making skills. 
  • Fluent in English
  • Excellent planning, organisation and communication skills.
  • Demonstration of composure and professional poise
  • Team orientated individual mentoring as needed.

Our Recruitment Process 

Initally we will reach out to you for an informal conversation about the role. This will allow you the opportunity to ask questions and find out more about TT, our site and our team. It will also give us the chance to learn more about you and your experience to date. At this point both parties have the opportunity to decide if they would like to continue with the process.

 

Formal interviews will be held on site and include a tour of the facility.

 

Due to specific projects that TT Electronics Abercynon supports, we are unable to sponsor work visas for this role. Candidates will be required to achieve Baseline Personal Security Standard Clearance and hold UK or US citizenship.

 

Sucessful candidates will be required to undertake pre and during employment drug and alcohol testing.
