Role Overview and Responsibilities

This position requires use of information which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e., “Green Card Holder”), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

 

Introduction

 

The Calibration Specialist supports manufacturing operations by ensuring all inspection, measurement, and test equipment used in production and quality assurance is calibrated and maintained in accordance with industry standards (e.g., AS9100). This role is critical in maintaining compliance with customer, regulatory, and internal requirements, supporting audit readiness, and upholding product integrity and traceability across programs. The Calibration Specialist also interfaces with engineering, quality, and external labs to drive continuous improvement in calibration processes.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and unscheduled calibrations on inspection, measurement, and test equipment in accordance with internal procedures and industry standards (e.g., AS9100).
  • Maintain accurate calibration records and certificates to ensure audit readiness and compliance with regulatory and customer requirements.
  • Coordinate with internal departments to schedule and prioritize equipment calibrations to minimize production disruption.
  • Identify out-of-tolerance conditions, initiate appropriate corrective actions, and support investigations into potential product impact.
  • Manage relationships with external calibration laboratories, including review of calibration reports for accuracy and traceability.
  • Assist in the development and refinement of calibration procedures and work instructions to ensure consistent and reliable measurement practices.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing documentation and responding to calibration-related inquiries.
  • Track and report key calibration metrics, including equipment status, overdue items, and trends in equipment performance.
  • Ensure all calibration activities support the integrity, traceability, and compliance of the manufacturing processes.

Qualifications, Skills and Attributes

Core Requirements

  • Strong understanding of measurement principles, calibration methods, and the use of precision instruments and standards.
  • Ability to identify measurement discrepancies and ensure accuracy and completeness in documentation and equipment data.
  • Skilled in using calibration tools, software, and systems; familiarity with ERP, QMS, and asset management systems.
  • Working knowledge of industry standards and regulations such as AS9100.
  • Capable of identifying root causes of calibration failures or out-of-tolerance conditions and supporting corrective/preventive action efforts.
  • Clear and professional in communicating calibration results, equipment issues, and audit responses to cross-functional teams.
  • Effective at managing calibration schedules, tracking equipment status, and maintaining compliant documentation.
  • Proactively identifies opportunities to streamline calibration processes and enhance equipment reliability and traceability.

 

Desireable Skills and Experience

  • A minimum of five years experience in calibration or metrology, preferably in aerospace and defense.
  • Associate’s degree or technical certification in electronics, engineering technology, or related field preferred.
  • Familiarity with calibration standards and regulatory requirements such as AS9100 and MIL-STD specifications.
  • Proficiency in using precision measurement instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers, torque wrenches, multimeters, height gauges, etc.)
  • Experience with calibration management systems.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and equipment specifications.
