Role Overview and Responsibilities

Introduction

As the Head of Engineering you will be accountable & responsible for all aspects of engineering resource at our TT Electronics, Bedlington, site. 

Responsible for driving innovation in manufacturing excellence and product development, this role leads a multi-disciplined team of engineers focused on manufacturing, designing and developing new electronic products, components and technologies to meet business objectives, customer and market demands. 

Key Responsibilities

You will be responsible for leading the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of advanced manufacturing process strategies across all product lines to ensure optimal overall equipment effectiveness.

The Head of Engineering ensures that all products and manufacturing operations meet the highest standards of quality, reliability, and compliance with aerospace regulations, while driving innovation and operational efficiency, aligned with the latest technological advancements in electronics manufacturing, including cleanroom operations. 

You will prioritise health, safety, environmental and regulatory standards, and provide leadership, inspire, & motivate to achieve operational excellence, aligning with the TT behaviours. 

Duties, Responsibilities and Key Tasks include

  • Process Development: Leading the design and optimisation of processes for thick film printing, laser, die bond, wire bond, silver sintering, testing and associated processes to ensure optimal overall equipment effectiveness.  
  • Vendor & Equipment Management: Overseeing selection, installation, optimisation and maintenance of all equipment.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring all manufacturing processes comply with AS9100, and other relevant aerospace standards.
  • Technology Integration: Evaluating and implementing advanced manufacturing technologies such as Industry 4.0, robotics, and AI-driven quality control.
  • Team Leadership: Managing and mentoring a high performing team, fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Quality & Compliance: Ensuring all processes meet IPC standards, ISO certifications, and customer-specific quality requirements.
  • Lean Manufacturing: Driving lean initiatives, Six Sigma projects, and Kaizen events to improve yield, reduce cycle time, and lower costs.
  • Strategic Oversight: Developing and the executing the New Technology & New Product strategy aligned with business goals and market / technology trends. Managing the end-to-end product development lifecycle from concept to production readiness.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Working closely with R&D, Quality, Supply Chain, and Production teams to ensure seamless product transitions from design to manufacturing.  

Qualifications, Skills and Attributes

  • Act as a role model and actively strive to demonstrate TT core values.
  • Support the roll out of site and wider TT initiatives, including E,D & I and mandatory compliance training.
  • Ensure the consistent application of company policies, and take the lead to apply these within your team.
  • Encourage open and honest communication and feedback within the team, ensuring team meetings take place regularly.
  • Actively engage with Safety Observation Reporting (SOR).

Skills and Experience Required

 

Leadership and Management:

  • Demonstrable, solid, experience in electronics manufacturing, preferably in clean room environments. Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills for motivating and managing a large team. 

Business Acumen: 

  • Understanding the business context and aligning manufacturing strategies with company goals. 

Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:

  • Ability to analyse data, identify issues, and develop effective solutions.

Networking: 

  • Building relationships with internal and external stakeholders. 

Collaboration: 

  • Working effectively with other departments (e.g., sales, marketing, engineering).

Negotiation and Conflict Resolution: 

  • Resolving conflicts and managing challenging situations.

Adaptability and Resilience: 

  • Able to adapt to changing conditions.
