Role Overview and Responsibilities

Summary: The position of  Senior New Product Introduction (NPI) Engineer plays a critical role in executing our strategy of speed to market in delivering prototypes and NPI’s, a gateway to future business growth. This role will work closely with customers, translating their needs to the internal teams to deliver high quality, expert engineered rapid prototypes and new product introductions as a competitive differentiator. Reporting to the NPI Manager for the site, the Senior NPI Engineer collaborates with multiple cross functional teams throughout the organization to ensure that all stated goals and objectives are achieved. The Senior NPI Engineer works with Business Development and Commercial teams to drive Go/No-Go decisions on new opportunities based on best fit to the business. They will serve as a back-up to the NPI manager for reporting metrics as required to operations and commercial leadership.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Translates and builds from customer assembly drawings and specifications, documenting the assembly process.
  • Leads selected Prototyping/NPI efforts to ensure a smooth transition of stated requirements and deliverables from design engineering development to production.
  • Maintains and reports on NPI metrics, managing recurring status meetings as well as shared and/or sitewide reports
  • Ensures that design and manufacturability requirements are met during the new product development phase.
  • Ensures that processes and techniques employed are lean, reliable, and cost effective, supportive of LEAN/CI manufacturing principles and optimization of process/product flow.
  • Completes all phase deliverables for NPI schedule, ensuring manufacturing operational needs and requirements are considered throughout the project.
  • Provides inputs regarding best assembly and test practices during product development phase with a view to ensuring the scalability of production to meet growth estimates.
  • Provides input on/collaborates on capacity and equipment requirements based on new product forecast, growth estimates and current capacity utilization to ensure the successful transition to full rate production.
  • Performs training of operators and Team Leaders in specialized manufacturing techniques and new processes.
  • Cross-train on additional engineering functions to strengthen the knowledge base of the team
  • Serve as subject matter expert for all business critical software and processes related to both quoting and NPI deployment.
  • Ensure compliance to all quoting and NPI related processes
  • Support internal or external audits, as required
  • Report lessons learned on NPI deployments as required, providing guidance on improvement opportunities

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant Engineering discipline, BSEE or BSME preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered.
  • 5+ years’ experience in electronics manufacturing with electro/mechanical products, preferably in aerospace and defense environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and manage multiple, simultaneous projects and priorities.
  • Highly organized, superb attention to detail, capable of multi-tasking and following through on tasks to completion.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate across all levels within the organization including the ability to break down complex technical terms for all audience levels.
  • Eagerness to operate in a dynamic fast paced environment with the ability to drive change.
  • Commitment to work with a hands-on approach in a team atmosphere is required.
  • Proficient in MS Office, MS Project, and windows-based applications such as Excel and Access.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • CAD experience required, preferrable related to PCB layout and design for manufacturability
