Role Overview and Responsibilities

Summary: The Senior Quality Engineer ensures product and process quality by driving compliance, defect prevention, and continuous improvement. This role leads root cause analysis and corrective actions, supports audits and customer requirements, and partners with cross‑functional teams to improve quality, reliability, and customer satisfaction.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

 

  • Coach and mentor Quality Engineers on quality assurance procedures and best practices.
  • Identify and lead cross-functional continuous improvement projects, including those aimed at reducing Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ).
  • Support Quality Assurance team with preparation for and participate in 3rd party audits.
  • Lead internal audits, complete reports, and assign Corrective Actions, as needed, to support compliance with industry standards.
  • Clear understanding of ISO 9001, ISO 13485, AS9100, AS9102 and NADCAP standards applicable to electronic manufacturing processes and systems compliance to the standards
  • Understands quality requirements of contracts, POs (and amendments) to awarded contracts, and compliance of sub-tier supplier to contractual flow-downs
  • Responsible for product and data creation & presentation for final customer acceptance, Source Inspection, and First Article Inspection (FAI)
  • Good understanding and ability to use basic measuring equipment/gages (calipers, pin gages, tape measures, microscopes, etc.)
  • Coordinates with Procurement to assess quality systems of new suppliers and manage existing supplier quality conformance. Assist with resolution of supplier material non-conformances
  • Supports production Material Review Board (MRB) process and underlying cause of non-conformance.
  • Performs Root Cause and Corrective Action analysis when required (customer, supplier, internal), including implementation with potential for capital deployment, if required.
  • Understands and ensures product traceability requirements are met.
  • Works closely with Product Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Customer in support of Continuous Improvement programs and projects
  • Performs Customer & Supplier Quality liaison duties
  • Familiar with IQ/OQ/PQ protocol & validation plans
  • Occasional travel to supplier and customer locations may be required.

Qualifications, Skills and Attributes

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Language Ability: Excellent communication both written and verbal. Ability to read and analyze datasheets, industry standards, correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports, Quality plans, Inspection guides, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and Team Members. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions. The individual must possess strong skills in grammar and proofreading.
  • Math Ability: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, percentages, statistical data, trends as appropriate to the essential responsibilities.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to collect data, solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to maintain a professional and positive image in any situation using good judgment.
  • Computer Skills: Ability to use office software, including Word processing, spreadsheets, databases, slide presentations, internet browsers, e-mail, and business systems software.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Although, this role may provide quality direction to Team Members/personnel.

 

Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree in Electronic Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Quality Engineering.
  • Five (5) plus years’ quality or equivalent experience. Aerospace experience is preferred, but not a must. ASQ certifications a plus.

 

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

 

  • Walking and Standing: Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk throughout manufacturing and office environments.
  • Extended Sitting: Extended periods of computer use for data analysis, reporting, documentation, and communication.
  • Manual Dexterity: Regular use of hands and fingers to handle and inspect printed circuit boards, components, and measuring instruments.
  • Manual Handling: Occasional lifting, carrying, or moving of materials, documents, or equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Visual Acuity: Ability to visually inspect PCBs, assemblies, and documentation, including close vision, color differentiation, and attention to fine detail.
  • Work Environment: Exposure to typical manufacturing conditions, including noise, equipment vibration, chemicals, and electrostatic discharge (ESD) environments, with required use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
